Kevin Durant Trade Now 'Inevitable' After Shocking Suns Move

The Phoenix Suns made a major move on Monday, dismissing head coach Mike Budenholzer after just one season. Now, speculation is growing that Kevin Durant could most likely also be on his way out.

Budenholzer’s tenure in Phoenix was short-lived, with the Suns finishing 36-46 and missing the playoffs despite having the NBA’s highest payroll.

A key factor in the decision was the reported belief among team officials that Budenholzer couldn’t effectively work with star guard Devin Booker—a tension that reportedly affected the entire roster.

Additionally, Budenholzer clashed with Durant during games, fueling rumors that the Suns might let the coach go to keep their 15-time All-Star happy.

However, even with Budenholzer out, Durant’s future in Phoenix remains uncertain. ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that the Suns are open to trading Durant this summer, with multiple teams expected to pursue the superstar. Phoenix is reportedly willing to collaborate with Durant and his camp to find a suitable trade partner.

The Suns are fully invested in Booker, who, at 27, is significantly younger than the 36-year-old Durant. Meanwhile, Bradley Beal’s no-trade clause makes him difficult to move, leaving Durant as the most likely star to be dealt.

Despite his age, Durant remains elite, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists this season. While many teams would gladly pay his $55 million salary next year, his reported desire for a 2-year 120 million max extension could complicate trade talks.

The Suns explored Durant trades before February’s deadline but demanded a steep return. Now, if they decide to move him, one Western Conference contender has already emerged as the frontrunner to acquire the two-time NBA Finals MVP.
