Toronto Raptors Add A Veteran Big Man To the Roster

They've seemingly had their eyes on him for years, and now the Toronto Raptors have finally, officially signed veteran center Mo Bamba.

The deal is for one year, but does not become guaranteed until January 10th.  Bamba had an impressive showing in the G League Winter Showcase with the Salt Lake City Stars so far this season, averaging 16.5 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.7 blocks while shooting 54.4% from the field and 37.7% from three-point range in 14 games.

In fact, the Raptors got a close-up look at Bamba when he registered 17 points, 12 boards, five assists, and three blocks in the Stars' victory over the Raptors 905 in the Winter Showcase championship game.

With a 7'10" wingspan, Bamba is an elite shot-blocking center and defender, as well as having the capability of being a floor-spacer, as evidenced by his three different seasons shooting over 38% from the three-point arc.

The 27-year-old 7-footer was a lottery pick by the Orlando Magic in 2018, selected with the 6th overall pick. He last played in the NBA last season, split between the New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Clippers, averaging 4.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 32 games.

Jakob Poeltl's continuing back troubles have necessitated the Raptors to add some depth at center. They've been rumored to be considering a blockbuster trade to try to acquire Anthony Davis from the Dallas Mavericks, but that is a long shot at best.

Bamba has averaged 6.8 points, 5.4 boards and 1.3 blocks in his seven-year career, in 16.8 average minutes per night.
