Top Trade Candidate Trey Murphy III Linked To 9 Teams
The New Orleans Pelicans are asking for an insanely high return in a Trey Murphy III trade (three first rounders is the rumor), but there are nine teams keeping a close eye on the dynamic scoring threat and two-way forward.
Nine teams are reportedly monitoring Trey Murphy III, per Brett Siegel. 👀 The Lakers, Rockets, Bulls, Wizards, Warriors, Thunder, Spurs, Pistons, and Grizzlies are keeping tabs on the Pelicans wing. 🔥 https://t.co/bE0nGzXwNP

Chris Dodson of Clutch Points lists the following as suitors who are monitoring Murphy:
- LA Lakers
- Houston Rockets
- Chicago Bulls
- Washington Wizards
- Golden State Warriors
- OKC Thunder
- San Antonio Spurs
- Detroit Pistons
- Memphis Grizzlies
For the Lakers, Erik Beaston writes in Bleacher Report that "there are two areas that the team must improve to contend in the loaded Western Conference: defense and on the wings." Murphy III would be a huge addition addressing both of those needs.
The Thunder are sifting through trade options to patch a couple of glaring wing and depth needs following injuries to key players Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace (Chet Holmgren is also out for a significant period).
The Warriors have been longtime suitors of Murphy, and have previously discussed draft-pick and player packages for the Pelicans star. They could use another scorer to help out Steph Curry.
The Rockets have a need for Murphy's floor spacing, while he'd fit right into their defensive identity. "The Houston Rockets have a glaring weakness that separates them from the top tier teams in the NBA, writes SI's Trenton Whiting. Most of the top teams have at least a few elite shooters who can knock down three-point shots at a high rate. These players help space the floor for their stars to give more space for the best players to play their ideal games."
The Spurs have targeted Murphy III to address their perimeter and three-point shooting needs.
Murphy was a 21 ppg scorer for the previous two seasons, with over five boards a game, a three-point percentage of about 37%.
