Ben Simmons Reportedly Going Broke

The Thanksgiving Holiday is often an excuse to live to the excess but one person has been reportedly taking that idea and running with it all year. That person is Philadelphia 76ers Point Guard Ben Simmons who, according to 94WIP in Philadelphia’s Howard Eskin, is hemorrhaging money and “he may be tapped out, broke”.

The 25-year old All-Star and All-NBA First Team Defender has clearly been living his best life after signing his 5-year/$170,000,000 deal with the Sixers in the summer of 2019. Eskin goes on to suggest that Simmons may be forced to return to the 76ers if he wants to spend “money like it's nothing because he thinks it never ends.”

Eskin went on to say, “ [Simmons is] Cash flow broke. Because he's losing so much money, but he spent so much money. 17.5 million dollar home, remember he has to pay taxes too. 17.5 million dollar home. He's got two homes in the Philadelphia area, probably worth eight or nine million. He buys a new car every month, four or five hundred thousand. And the person that told, it's very reliable that he has got serious cash flow issues.”

It’s worth noting that in addition to the fines he is receiving from the team, Simmons is also not being paid by the team - meaning that the team’s recent 6-game road trip cost Simmons well over 2 million dollars in lost games checks alone. Time will tell if Ben’s lifestyle will catch up to him and force him to make some tough decisions but until then, the Philadelphia 76ers will soldier on regardless. The Sixers have been one of the most depleted squads this season, losing Center Joel Embiid and Forward Tobias Harris at different times in addition to Simmons, but have still been able to achieve a record of 10-9 which is good enough for 8th in the highly competitive Eastern Conference.
