Rumor: John Wall To Miami Heat

We're into a new season of NBA basketball, but Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons aren't the only star players not on the court. John Wall and the Houston Rockets are mutually agreed that the veteran point guard needs to move on to a contender, and one rumor this week has that contender being the Miami Heat.

In an article for The Athletic, Hall of Fame media member David Aldridge says Wall is going to wind up with the Heat,  "after he negotiates a buyout from the Rockets."

Wall, it turns out, lives in Miami, so it makes sense from that perspective, plus the fact that the Heat are in "win-now" mode, and Wall would bring a big boost  to the second unit, behind Kyle Lowry.

After missing much of two seasons with injuries, Wall came back last season to put up averages of 20.6 points and 6.9 assists for the Rockets, in 40 games. But  his current salary of $44 million this season, and $47 million next season makes  his contract virtually untradeable. A buyout is really the only way to free him up.

The Heat, as Aldridge notes, are "famous for extending careers of talented guys who’ve been slowed by injuries mid-career."

The only sticking point to that theory is the developments in Philadelphia, where the Sixers have to be getting extremely desperate to trade the disgruntled Ben Simmons, and John Wall could be a good fit working with Sixers star  center Joel Embiid
