Phoenix Suns Sign Free Agent 5 Days After Waiving Him

The Phoenix Suns have had a change of heart and reversed a move they made just five days ago when they waived Haywood Highsmith. They have now re-signed him to a new one-year, $2.9 million deal.

Highsmith only played seven games with Phoenix last season due to meniscus surgery, but shot the lights out from long range (on low volume), hitting on 57% of his three-point attempts in 13.0 minutes per contest. He averaged two 3-pt attempts per game.

The Suns had waived Highsmith five days ago, even though he was partially guaranteed $1 million of his $3 million salary for the 2026-27 season. Now he'll get $3.9M in total.

He did get some attention on the waiver wire, reports insider Michael A. Scotto.

In the end, he cleared waivers, and Phoenix rose from the ashes to bring him back in.

The Suns lost Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale this offseason, so bringing back Highsmith makes sense to replace some of the floor spacing. He's shot 38% from three for his career. He also brings another solid defensive presence on the perimeter for the Suns with his 7-foot wingspan.

It's a nice depth add for Phoenix at the two and the three.
