Some Big Names Left Without Rookie Contract Extensions

The NBA's deadline to sign 2018 draftees to rookie contract extensions has come and gone and there's a few great players standing alone without a new deal.

Of note, Collin Sexton of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges and Deandre Ayton of the Phoenix Suns were all left without a new deal. For Ayton, the Suns wanted nothing to do with giving the center max-money and now there could be trouble in paradise down in the desert.

Some other players who didn't get a new deal include Mo Bamba of the Orlando Magic, Marvin Bagley III from the Sacramento Kings and Kevin Knox of the New York Knicks. All three were top-10 picks. You can chalk up the insecurities to injury trouble and inconsistent play.

One of the biggest surprises is Sexton who ranks in the top-three for total points from the 2018 class only behind Luka Doncic and Trae Young. Both of who received max money, meanwhile Sexton now becomes a restricted free agent next summer along with anyone else who didn't sign on the dotted line.
