NBA Rumors: Lakers Interested in Trading for Raptors Shooting Guard

The Los Angeles Lakers have yet to reach expectations this season as their play has been all over the map. There's no doubt some changes are coming as it's championship or bust for the franchise and word is the team is heavily interested in Toronto Raptors shooting guard Gary Trent Jr.

The Lakers have been rumored to contact the Raptors over the past couple of weeks regarding a deal, but the sense from Toronto is they feel their team is good enough to win and won't be selling off any of it's assets or core pieces for that matter.

Trent Jr was acquired by from the Portland Trail Blazers last season and has fit in nicely with head coach Nick Nurse and his group. Toronto is now two games over .500 after a very slow start so with the eastern conference being wide open you can't really blame them for not wanting to move anyone from their rotation. The soon-to-be 23-year-old forward is still finding his game in the league and has made huge strides over these past couple of seasons. So far in 33 games in 2021-22, Trent Jr has posted averages of 16.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He's shot 37% from deep and Toronto feels there's plenty of untapped potential in his game.

The Lakers are rumored to be involved in talks with the Detroit Pistons regarding Jerami Grant, the Raptors for Trent Jr and the Orlando Magic regarding Terrence Ross. Sitting seventh in the Western Conference, only one game over .500, it shouldn't come at a surprise to see LeBron James facilitate some moves out of California.
