NBA Rumors: Hornets Head Coach Frontrunner Could Be Signed By Week's End

Charlotte Hornets beat reporter Roderick Boone says that "barring an unexpected turn", the team "appears to be zeroing in" on the most serious contender for the head coaching gig: Kenny Atkinson. He could be named by the end of the week.

Boone says in The Observer that the Golden State Warriors assistant will be meeting with Hornets' team owner Michael Jordan within the next few days, and that is always seen around these parts as the final step to signing a contract.

Atkinson, of course, is a little busy these days, helping Warriors' head coach Steve Kerr in trying to get their team back on track in the NBA Finals. Boone notes that there's a three-day gap between Games 2 and 3 of the Finals, which could be the window needed to get the final stamp of approval for Atkinson.

Earlier reports had also placed former longtime NBA head coach Mike D'Antoni as a frontrunner for the Hornets' job, but it's looking more and more like Atkinson will be taking the reigns for LaMelo Ball and company going forward.
