NBA Rumors: Carmelo Anthony Linked To Former Team

Carmelo Anthony showed with the Los Angeles Lakers last season that, at the age of 37, he could still be a major contributor, as a scorer off the bench. Now at the age of 38, there's one rumor that Melo is interested in a reunion with another team from his past.

“I have certainly heard that Carmelo’s got interest in a reunion,” NBA insider Jake Fischer said. No word if the feeling is mutual, however. The Knicks have been busy this offseason rebuilding their roster, starting with the $104M signing of free agent guard Jalen Brunson.

Next up, of course, the Knicks are the leading contenders to bring in Donovan Mitchell if they can meet the high price being set by the Utah Jazz. So with the Knicks' roster potentially in flux, depending on the package they potentially send off for Mitchell, they might not be ready to commit to Carmelo just yet.

Anthony averaged 13.3 points and 4.2 rebounds in 26 minutes as a solid rotation piece for the Lakers last season. He shot an elite 37.5% from three-point range, and even better than that in the previous two seasons.

But the Lakers shouldn't write off a Melo return just yet. Last month, Sean Deveney of Heavy.com reported that one NBA GM still expected Anthony to return to L.A.
