Hawks Sign Point Guard To Camp Deal For 2nd Time In 4 Years

The Atlanta Hawks have added some guard depth to their roster as training camp is set to kick off, signing 3rd-year guard Armoni Brooks to a contract.

It's an Exhibit 10 deal for Brooks, the same as he signed with them in 2019. It brings the Hawks' camp roster to a maximum allowable 20.

Brooks had a big dropoff last season following a fine rookie year with the Houston Rockets in 2020-21. He performed well in his hometown base, averaging 11.2 points and 3.4 rebounds, while hitting on 38.2% of his three-point shots.

He spent parts of last season with the Rockets and then the Toronto Raptors, but only mustered up a 29.7% mark from long distance, while averaging 5.3 points.

He was waived by the Raptors in July, after Summer League.

Brooks went undrafted in 2019 after a 3-year college career at the University of Houston, and signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Hawks at that time as well. He spent the year with their G League affiliate, the College Park SkyHawks, where he averaged 10.7 points and shot an impressive 39.7% from behind the arc.

If he can get back to nailing threes at a high rate, he could have a chance at cracking the Hawks' roster.
