NBA Rumors: Celtics Consider Adding Championship Coach To Staff

The Boston Celtics are in disarray as training camp is set to open next week, both on the injury front and on the coaching staff. With head coach Ime Udoka set to sit out the season, according to all sources, as his punishment for indiscretions, the bench will look different this season.

Assistant Joe Mazzulla is expected to be elevated to head coach for the 2022-23 season, but that will leave the coaching ranks thin. One rumor has them potentially bringing in a recent championship coach to fill the void.

Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated says that former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel could be brought in, due to his longstanding relationship with team president (and former head coach) Brad Stevens.

Vogel led the Lakers to the title in the Bubble in 2020, but was let go at the end of last season after a tumultuous year resulting in the team missing out on the playoffs.

Steven and Vogel have been close since 2011, when Stevens was serving as the coach of the Butler Bulldogs in Indiana, and Vogel had just taken over as the Indiana Pacers head coach.

Lots of fallout still to come, undoubtedly, in the Celtics/Udoka drama.
