7-Year Veteran NBA Center Becomes Free Agent

The Houston Rockets are sticking with youth this season, as they've waived another veteran, the former No. 6 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, center Willie Cauley-Stein.

The Rockets signed Cauley-Stein to a camp deal only a week earlier, but he failed to make an impression in that short period of time. The team also waived 29-year-old Pierria Henry.

Cauley-Stein, also 29, had a couple of decent seasons with the Sacramento Kings after they used the No. 6 pick to select him in 2015. His third and fourth seasons there yielded averages of about 12 points and nearly 8 rebounds. But the Kings didn't retain him after that, and he's had trouble finding his footing in the league since then.

The 7-footer will now be available on the free agent market once again.

Alperen Sengün and Bruno Fernando are the two main players who will be utilized at the five as the season begins.

As reported a couple of days ago, the Rockets are purging seemingly all veterans not named Boban Marjanovic, leaving the (very) big man as one of only two veterans on the team (along with guard Eric Gordon).
