NBA Rumors: Lakers Bring In 10-Year Veteran For Workout

The Los Angeles Lakers are still working on tweaking their roster, with wing depth being a key need they'd like to address. According to a report, they've brought in 10-year free agent swingman Moe Harkless for a workout.

"The Lakers have brought in 10-year NBA veteran Moe Harkless for a free-agent workout and meeting this week, sources tell me," reports NBA Insider Shams Charania. "The Lakers are considering a potential signing to bolster their wing and frontcourt depth and Harkless, who was waived by Houston in training camp, is among the top players on the open market."

And while the Lakers do have a need for reliable wings, the real glaring deficiency on their roster right now is long-range shooting and floor spacing. Harkless has only a 32% career mark from beyond the arc, including a 30% mark with the Sacramento Kings last season, and 27.4% with the Kings and the Miami Heat the season before.

Overall, Harkless has averaged 6.9 points and 3.5 rebounds in 22.6 minutes per contest over the course of his career, for six different teams.

The 29-year-old is 6'7", and would certainly help on defense on the perimeter, though a roster spot would have to be cleared if they signed him. The two non-guaranteed contracts on the roster belong to Matt Ryan and Wenyen Gabriel. Would they be willing to cut either of them loose?
