Pelicans Lose Zion Williamson & Brandon Ingram To Injuries

It's the last thing the New Orleans Pelicans needed to see. Zion Williamson went down hard under the basket Sunday night as the Utah Jazz's Jordan Clarkson blocked him from behind on the contest of his fast-break dunk attempt. Zion left the game with a hip injury and his status is unclear.

Williamson tried to stay in the game, but lasted just one play and spent the rest of the game on the bench, refusing trainers' pleas to head to the locker room to be examined.

After the game, he was diagnosed with a posterior hip contusion. The severity of the injury hasn't yet been revealed, so a timeline for his return—or whether he could possibly play through it—is unknown at this time.

Williamson had returned with a flourish for the Pelicans after missing the entire season last year. He's averaged 22 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals thus far.

The Pels also lost star Brandon Ingram to a head injury. He collided with teammate Naji Marshall while going for a steal. He was being evaluated for concussion-like symptoms.

Both players are listed as questionable for the Pelicans' next game on Tuesday against the Dallas Mavericks.
