Rookie Guard Makes Heat Final Roster, 4 Others Waived

After an impressive 15-point performance in the Miami Heat's preseason win over the Houston Rockets this week, 24-year-old shooting guard Dru Smith out of Missouri has won himself a contract and made the team's final roster.

It's a two-way contract for the 24-year-old, who is in his second season in the organization. He was signed as an undrafted free agent out of college last year, and spent the season with the Sioux Falls SkyForce, the Heat's G League affiliate. In eight Showcase Cup games, he had a superb all-around performance, averaging 14.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists, along with 1.9 steals per game and 1.3 blocks.

The 6'3" guard has now won himself a spot on the Heat's roster out of training camp. He takes the two-way contract that was originally slated for Marcus Garrett, who will now be out at least four weeks with a wrist injury suffered earlier this week. Jamal Cain has earned the Heat's other two-way contract.

In more roster moves, the Heat waived Garrett, along with Mychal Mulder, Orlando Robinson and Jamaree Bouyea.
