"We Can't Shoot A Penny In The Ocean": Here's Evidence For LeBron James' Claim

The Los Angeles Lakers had another dreadful game shooting on Sunday (and not only Russell Westbrook). In pondering his team's pitiful shooting woes, LeBron James admitted that "we can't shoot a penny in the ocean."

The Lakers are shooting 21.1% on threes through their first three games this season. 25-for-118. According to ESPN Stats & Info, on the list of 6,100 teams in league history that have taken at least 100 three-point attempts over a three-game period, the Lakers are 6,099th. Second-worst of all-time. By only a fraction of a point.

Here's how the Lakers have shot, individually:

  • Russell Westbrook              8.3%
  • Juan Toscano-Anderson   12.5%
  • Lonnie Walker IV               17.6%
  • Anthony Davis                    20.0%
  • Patrick Beverley                21.4%
  • Kendrick Nunn                  23.1%
  • LeBron James                    25.9%

It's getting so embarrassing, defenders aren't even thinking about going out to cover their man.

If you need to visualize it further, have a look at where the Lakers are compared to the other 29 teams in the NBA, by volume and efficiency.

See that logo way down at the bottom, by itself, off to the right?

Where's Buddy Hield when you need him?
