Kemba Walker Offers Advice to Celtics Stars

Coming off a championship finals appearance and enjoying a searing hot start to the regular season, it seems ludicrous to imagine the Boston Celtics breaking up their dynamic core of two young wings. It’s easy to forget now how close that actually came to happening, and apparently it took some advice from a seasoned veteran to make sure those young stars stayed focused on the game, and not what was going on behind the scenes. In a recent appearance on The Woj Pod, former Celtics point guard Kemba Walker told Adrian Wojnarowski about his time in Boston, and the advice he gave Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum amidst relentless trade rumors and disappointing results.
Walker says he stressed to Brown and Tatum the importance of chemistry and friendship, to avoid letting trade talks affect their play and show the organization that they could succeed as a duo. In his words: “I always told them, this organization isn’t going nowhere without you two, literally. My main thing to those guys was that they have to love each other. Jayson and Jaylen, you two guys have to come together as much as you can and lead this team to the promised land. They can’t go anywhere without those two guys.”
Though his time in Boston may not have worked out perfectly, it seems Kemba’s leadership helped lead Boston to where they are today. The 32-year-old also spoke about his team in Charlotte, where he enjoyed his prime years.

Walker is currently a free agent, having been waived by the New York Knicks after an unsuccessful stint last season. For teams in search of experienced leaders and bench scoring, he will certainly top the list of names to call.
