Pelicans Star Enters Health and Safety Protocols

New Orleans Pelicans star CJ McCollum has reportedly entered health and safety protocols and has been listed as out versus the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

McCollum missed Wednesday's contest against the Spurs with what was previously reported as a non-COVID illness.

In 17 games so far this season, the 6-foot-3 guard is averaging 18.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, and a career-best 6.1 assists.

The scoring output is the lowest it has been since McCollum became a full-time starter. It is also the first time his average has dropped below 20 points per game since that time.

His efficiency has also taken a hit as he is shooting just 41.0 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from three, both career lows.

Nonetheless, the Pelicans still sit at third in the West in the early season with a record of 11-7. With McCollum out, fan favourite Jose Alvarado should get the starting nod.
