Atlanta Hawks Sign Free Agent Big Man

The Atlanta Hawks have dipped into the free agent pool to add a 12-year veteran to their frontcourt depth.

Derrick Favors was waived by the Houston Rockets before the beginning of the season, leaving him without a team for the last three months.

It's a 10-day contract, and a homecoming for Favors, who was born in Atlanta.

He also played his college and high school ball there.

The 31-year-old spent last season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, averaging 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds in about 16 minutes per game.

Favors was the No 3 overall pick in the 2010 Draft, and was an All-Rookie Second Team Selection that year.

The Hawks will be his 5th NBA team. He's posted career marks of 10.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocked shots, while shooting 53.4% from the field.

He'll add some veteran leadership and frontcourt presence for the Hawks.
