Donovan Mitchell Drug Tested After Historic 71-point Night

Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell put on a historic performance Monday night, dropping 71 points in their gutsy 145-134 overtime win over the Chicago Bulls. Following Mitchell's epic game, Spida himself hilariously revealed on Twitter that the team was drug tested earlier Tuesday morning.

Of course, this may all just be a coincidence on the part of the NBA, as these drug tests are pretty much done randomly. Nonetheless, it's still a funny situation considering Mitchell's superhuman performance.

The Cavaliers All-Star became just the 7th player ever to score at least 70 points. He is tied with David Robinson and Elgin Baylor for the 6th highest scoring output in NBA history.

Ahead of him are obviously Wilt Chamberlain, who scored 100 points and has five other 70-or-more-point performances to his name, Kobe Bryant who scored 81 points in 2006, and David Thompson, who scored 73 points 25 years ago.

Mitchell displayed the entire repertoire to pull off the near-improbable win against Chicago — even making his best Luka Doncic impression when he intentionally missed a freethrow and followed up his own miss to force overtime.

Mitchell finished the night shooting 22-of-34 from the field, 7-of-15 from beyond the arc, and 20-of-25 from the foul line. He also had 11 assists and even came just two rebounds shy of notching the first ever 70-point triple-double.
