Klay Thompson Goes Off in Golden State Warriors 2OT Win

It turns out the Golden State Warriors can still bring the excitement. Klay Thompson stuffed the stat sheet Monday night, hitting 21 of his 39 field goal attempts for 54 points in the Warriors' 143-141 2OT win over the Atlanta Hawks.

Thompson added eight rebounds and three assists. He also hit 10 of his 21 three-point attempts. His 54 points were a season-high.

The Warriors lost superstar Steph Curry to a shoulder injury in mid-December, but they've done well to survive without him. They've won six of their past nine games, including five in a row following last night's game. Thompson is a big reason why: he has averaged 34.5 points per game on .463 shooting over his past four appearances.

Curry is reportedly making good progress in his recovery and has a chance to return in mid-January. If the Warriors keep coming together and playing well without him, his absence could end up being a blessing in disguise. If Curry can continue his MVP-calibre play on a squad demonstrating improved cohesion and chemistry, then the Warriors will be a team to be feared in the back half of the season.
