NBA Rumors: Ben Simmons' Name Surfaces In Nets-Raptors Talks

The Brooklyn Nets might have had just about enough of Ben Simmons. Recent reports suggest that Kevin Durant is less than impressed with his shot-reluctant teammate. Rumors floating this week have Simmons' name being discussed in trade talks with the Toronto Raptors.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype says that "Nets forward Ben Simmons and several first-round draft picks have also been discussed in trade conversations with the Raptors."

Yes, it's true that Toronto showed interest in, and inquired about Simmons back in 2021 when he was in his "trade me" snit from the Philadelphia 76ers. But that was before they drafted Scottie Barnes. Now, the reigning Rookie of the Year fulfills much of the role that Simmons used to, and is also not the greatest shooter yet (though he's working on it—more than can be said for Simmons).

Not to mention the fact that Simmons is a shell of the player he once was. He's playing more scared than ever, taking just half as many shots per game as he used to, and just being far from the impact player he was in Philly.

ESPN's NBA Insider Bobby Marks said this week that Simmons' trade value around the league is zero. And he added today on Toronto sports radio, about the rumor that the Raptors are talking about him in a trade with Brooklyn: “Unless you’re getting Nic Claxton and Cam Thomas with him, that just doesn’t make any sense!

The Raptors are known to be fans of Claxton, dating back to last year's trade deadline. But he has elevated himself this season into a Defensive Player of the Year candidate, while Thomas has exploded with back-to-back 44+ point games this week. The Nets are running to trade them anytime soon.

Nevertheless, the Nets will continue to engage the Raptors, looking to further fortify their roster around Durant, before he issues another trade demand.
