Oklahoma City Thunder's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Enters Health and Safety Protocols

The NBA's newest superstar could be out of action for a little while. Per the NBA Injury Report, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has entered health and safety protocols due to right ankle soreness and an abdominal strain.

Gilgeous-Alexander has missed the last two games and is set to miss Tuesday's matchup with the Sacramento Kings as well. Given his injuries, he's likely to miss more matchups. He was due for a break; he has appeared in an excellent 54 out of 60 games so far this season.

Gilgeous-Alexander has emerged as a surprise superstar this season, his fifth in the league. The newly minted All-Star is averaging a colossal 31.0 points per game with an efficient .623 true shooting percentage; only Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard and Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid are averaging superior marks in both categories.

Gilgeous-Alexander has improved his scoring every season since coming into the league, but his leap in volume and efficiency this season has him flirting with the upper echelon of NBA players. Only Dallas Mavericks megastar Luka Doncic is scoring more points at a younger age this year. Given the massive stockpile of draft assets the Thunder currently possess, the team's future is bright as it could be.

Gilgeous-Alexander's next opportunity to see the court is Tuesday against the Sacramento Kings.
