Report: Atlanta Hawks In Talks To "Swiftly Hire" Their 1st Choice For Coach

The Atlanta Hawks decided on their first choice for their new coach, and, according to NBA Insider Shams Charania, have begun "formal discussions" with former Utah Jazz coach Quin Snyder with hopes of a "swift hire."

The Hawks, according to Charania, had a virtual meeting with Snyder on Wednesday, sources said, and the sides are working on a potential in-person meeting in the very near future.

Snyder is a former assistant with the Hawks, spending the 2013-14 season there.

Other candidates the Hawks had been considering included Milwaukee Bucks assistant Charles Lee, Sacramento Kings assistant Jordi Fernandez, Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson, San Antonio Spurs assistant Mitch Johnson and G League South Bay’s Miles Simon.

And one report from Insider Marc Stein Wednesday night indicated that disgraced and suspended former Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka was also under consideration.

The Hawks are currently 29-30, struggling to hang on to 8th spot in the East. They dismissed Nate McMillan earlier this week.
