Trey Murphy III Goes Off in New Orleans Pelicans Win Over Sacramento Kings

The New Orleans Pelicans dominated the Sacramento Kings in a 136-104 win on Sunday night thanks to a big game from one of their most promising young players. Trey Murphy III hit a scorching nine of his 11 field goal attempts, including six of eight from three, for a game-high 30 points.

The Pelicans were without Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, who rank first and third on the team in points scored, and Murphy thrived in his increased role. It was his first 30+ point game of the season and the first 30-point game of his career that resulted in a win. He also added four rebounds and two assists. It was a career night for the 2021 first-round pick.

The win is only the Pelican's second in their last 12 games; they lost an astonishing 10 in a row from January 16th to February 2nd. Now at 28-27, the Pelicans are ninth in the Western Conference and remain in a position to at least make the play-in tournament. If they can get healthy and rediscover the momentum they had built early in the season, they'll still have a chance to make the playoffs. They'll have to prove their nightmarish losing streak was merely a strange blip in an otherwise strong season.
