It's Official: Wizards Complete Buyout Of 11-Year Veteran; Becomes Free Agent

It's been in the works for a couple of weeks now, and finally, 11-year veteran guard/forward Will Barton has his buyout, becoming a free agent.

He'll officially become a free agent once he clears waivers, giving him plenty of time to beat the March 1st deadline for being eligible to be on the playoff roster of another team.

Barton asked for a change of scenery as the Wizards have made little use of veteran wing this season. He's only played four of the team's last 16 games. He was averaging 7.7 points and 2.8 rebounds in 19 minutes per contest. He was, however, still filling it up from long-range, hitting threes at a 38% rate.

The 32-year-old had been a starter for the Denver Nuggets the previous four seasons, and had averaged 14 points and 5.0 rebounds with 36% shooting from 3-point range over his eight years there. He could certainly still be a viable scorer for a team in need down the stretch.
