Report: Big Decision On Zion Williamson Coming This Week

This is a huge week for Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans. According to a report this morning from NBA Insider Chris Haynes, the injury-riddled star will be re-evaluated this week to determine if he can return before the end of the regular season on Sunday.

The Pelicans are hopeful Williamson might be able to get a few games under his belt before the postseason. The team has four games remaining on its schedule. Williamson has not played in a game since Jan. 2.

After three months away from the court, can Zion be ready in time for the Play-in? The Playoffs (if the Pels make it through)?

New Orleans currently sits 8th in the Western Conference, but just half-a-game out of 5th and 6th and a guaranteed playoff spot.

Meanwhile, fellow NBA Insider Shams Charania sees things a bit differently, suggesting there is "no timetable" for a Zion return.

"There's still no timetable for [Zion Williamson's] return. He's going to be re-evaluated later this week... The one bit of news is that he did participate in some low-intensity 3-on-3 over the weekend. I don't know if that's a sign that he's on his way back.

"They're not going to rush him back... But, if he feels ready to go a game or two before the Play-In tournament, does he get there by the end of the week?"

He adds that Zion hasn't had any setbacks with his hamstring, and is making "some level of progress," but "there's some ancillary factors that we don't know the answers to," as to whether or not they'd try to bring him back in time for the Play-In.
