Miami Heat Add A New Guard Through Free Agency

The Miami Heat were considered the favourite to land Damian Lillard from the moment he requested a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers, but in a major shock, the All-NBA guard ended up with Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.

While the Heat likely aren't done targeting a star guard, as they are reportedly looking to land Jrue Holiday, the player moved in the deal, but just hours after the deal was confirmed, they landed another guard in free agency in the form of R.J. Hampton.

Hampton was a first round pick back in the 2020 NBA Draft, and has since played for Denver, Orlando and Detroit, averaging 7.1 PPG in 162 games played, and while he's not going to be the star they were hoping for, given what we've seen out of unheralded players before in Miami, he could be a solid depth piece.
