Sixers’ Kelly Oubre Struck By Car, Rushed To Hospital

It's not the usual run-of-the-mill type of injury report. Kelly Oubre Jr., who was off to a tremendous start with his new team, the Philadelphia 76ers, will have to miss time after being struck by a car in a brutal hit-and-run last night.

Shams Charania reports that Oubre was struck in the upper chest area by a silver vehicle traveling at a high-rate speed on Saturday night. The car fled the scene.

Oubre Jr. was rushed to hospital and suffered broken ribs, bruises and lacerations. He was released later last night. the 6'7" forward was fortunate to have avoided more serious injuries, but he will nevertheless miss some time. The team says he'll be re-evaluated in a week.

The accident occurred as Oubre was crossing Broad and Locust Streets in Center City, near his downtown Philly home.

The 27 year old was averaging 16.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in his first eight games with the Sixers, shooting 50 percent from the field and 38 percent on 3-pointers. He signed a one-year, free agent deal with them this summer, for what was said to be the veteran's minimum.
