Toronto Raptors Sign High-Performing Point Guard

Since trading away backup point guard Dennis Schroder, the Toronto Raptors have been in need in the backcourt and today have signed an undrafted point guard who has been a high performer in the G League.

DJ Carton has agreed to a 10-day contract with Toronto that will cover the team’s first five games after the All-Star break. He’ll earn a salary of $64,343 for that week and a half of work. Carton has put up 20.8 points and 7.2 assists per game in 15 regular season outings, while playing 38 minutes tonight with the Iowa Wolves of the G League.

The 6-foot-3 guard has improved his numbers in each of his three seasons in the NBA's developmental league since going undrafted out of Marquette in 2021.

The Charlotte Hornets signed Carton out of college in the summer of '21 but he didn't make the team and was waived before the season. He joined the Greensboro Swarm of the G League, and then moved to Iowa in the 2022-23 season.

With this move, the Raptors filled one of their two open spots on the 15-man roster, which opened up earlier this week when they let 10-day contracts for Justise Winslow and Mouhamadou Gueye expire. Gueye got into six minutes of action for Toronto, while Winslow did not make an appearance.
