Blockbuster Proposal Lands Trae Young in Orlando

The Trae Young trade rumors will be with us all summer, as its fairly evident that the Atlanta Hawks would like to break up their Young-Dejounte Murray backcourt, and that Young is the one they'd prefer to move.

We've already heard that one team, the San Antonio Spurs, have no interest in bringing in the ballhandling Young, as that wouldn't leave enough touches for burgeoning superstar Victor Wembanyama.

But how about the Orlando Magic, who are on the very precipice of contention in the Eastern Conference, and are desperate for a premier backcourt star?  Trae has averaged nearly 10 assists per game in his NBA career while still finding a way to score over 25 points per night.

This blockbuster proposal, from Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report, would get the three-time All-Star to the Sunshine State:

Orlando Magic Receive:

  • Trae Young

Atlanta Hawks Receive

  • Cole Anthony
  • Anthony Black
  • Jett Howard
  • 2025 first-round pick (via Denver)
  • 2027 first-round pick
  • 2029 first-round pick swap
The Hawks would get to load up for the future with a big haul, but also get two young point guard back to lock down the ballhandling duties. Black was the No. 6 overall pick in last year's NBA Draft, while Anthony is a four-year veteran, still only 24, and has averaged 11 points and four assists per game in his short NBA career.

Howard is another high first-round from the 2023 Draft, at #11 overall, and a 6'8" guard/forward with some upside if he can continue to hone his craft.

As for the Magic, they get their backcourt superstar to take the pressure off of frontcourt stars Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner while spacing the floor for them with his outside shooting, and being able to distribute the ball.
