Raptors Rumors: 4 Realistic Free Agent Fits for Raptors

The Toronto Raptors have some work to do this summer. After one of the worst seasons in franchise history, a full-on rebuild has begun. And while their draft positioning has yet to be set, and there are some unknowns about returning players, there are some definite needs on the roster that they can start thinking about addressing.

Eric Koreen of The Athletic has suggested some realistic free agent targets that would be good fits for Toronto.

Patrick Williams, Chicago Bulls

The former No. 4 overall pick (2020 Draft) has spent just about as much time on the injured list as he has on the court in his four seasons with the Bulls, but when he is on the court, the 6'7" forward is "a multi-positional defender who can knock down 3s at a high clip," as Koreen notes, and would be a perfect fit for this lineup. He is a restricted free agent, however, and it's unclear how high the Bulls would go to match any offer sheet.

Tyus Jones, Washington Wizards

Although he started 66 games for the Wizards this season, Jones has proven himself to be perhaps the best backup point guard in basketball, with the ability to fill the starter's role when necessary. The Memphis Grizzlies never missed a beat when he was there filling in for a missing Ja Morant in the starting unit.

Backup point guard is a huge void that the Raptors need to fill.

Jalen Smith, Indiana Pacers

Wouldn't it be nice for the Raptors to get a young up-and-coming player off the Pacers' roster, after they failed to do so in the Pascal Siakam trade negotiations? He has a $5M player option, which he is likely to decline. At 6'9", Smith developed into a terrific three-point shooter this season (42%). Adding a young big with talent and the ability to spread the floor would be a boon to the Raptors lineup.

Caleb Martin, Miami Heat

A hard-nosed player who brings intensity on defense, the 6'5" wing isn't well-liked by opponents' fans, but makes himself tough to play against. He has a $7M player option which he'll likely decline, but could still come at a reasonable cost. He's good for about 10 points a night, and can start or come off the bench.
