Blockbuster Trade Proposal Would Land Jimmy Butler In Houston

The Jimmy Butler talk just won't go away this postseason, despite the fact that the Miami Heat insist they don't want to move him. But Butler is eligible for, and wants, a max extension this summer, at two-years, $113 million. There have been reports that Miami may look to trade the small forward rather than give him that massive deal.

If that's the case, teams around the league are lining up, offering to give Jimmy Buckets the max extension. One of those is a team that's shown they are not shy about handing out outrageous contracts of late, the Houston Rockets.

Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report has proposed a blockbuster trade that would land Butler with Ime Udoka and the Rockets. It would look as follows:

Houston Rockets Receive:

  • Jimmy Butler

Miami Heat Receive:

  • Jalen Green
  • Dillon Brooks
  • No. 3 pick, 2024 draft

The Rockets get that "championship or bust" leader that they're looking for, while for Miami, it looks like a tantalizing offer: they land a top pick, a potent scorer and a hard-nosed defensive wing cut right out of Pat Riley/Erik Spoelstra cloth.

Green, the former No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, has found his name in the rumor mill this past season, as his lack of defensive acumen just doesn't fit with what head coach Ime Udoka wants out of his team. He did, however, put on an explosive late-season show, leading Houston on a 13-2 run by averaging over 27 points per game in that stretch, as noted by Hughes.

This probably won't be the last we hear of Jimmy Butler speculation this offseason.
