NBA Rumors: Orlando Magic Targeting 2 Huge Names in Free Agency

The Orlando Magic are on the precipice of being a truly competitive team to be taken seriously in the Eastern Conference. One more big piece could push them to a new level, and they’ve got the cap space to make it happen this offseason.

According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, the Magic are eyeing two big names on the free agent market this summer, as follows:

Paul George

We know that the Philadelphia 76ers are the primary interested party in George if the Clippers fail to re-sign him. But the Magic offer another, interesting alternative for PG as well in the East. If they were to land him, it would make for an insane frontcourt alongside Paolo Banchero, and Franz Wagner.

Most observers figure the Magic need to focus on bringing in a legitimate star point guard, but ‘PG’ himself would be a dynamic add for them. He averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists this past season while shooting 41% from three, and brings plenty of much-needed playoff experience.

Klay Thompson

The Magic could also make a splash with long-time Splash Brother Thompson. The Warriors (and Steph Curry) would certainly love to have him back, but his role did diminish this past season. And the Dubs won’t be offering Klay the kind of money he could make on the open market.

The Magic could really use a floor spacer like Thompson, someone to hit threes with regularity to take the pressure off Banchero and Wagner up front.

Should be an interesting time ahead for the up-and-coming Magic.
