NY Knicks Are Giannis Antetokounmpo's Top Choice As Next Team: Insiders Explain

Insider Shams Charania broke the news early Tuesday that the New York Knicks were the only team on Giannis Antetokounmpo's radar this past summer if he were to leave the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Knicks were the only team Giannis Antetokounmpo seriously considered this offseason, said Shams. And while the two teams did discuss a trade, it never came close as the Knicks never made a strong enough offer.

We get more on why Giannis was focused on the Knicks, from insider Ian Begley.

"Giannis Antetokounmpo has been very public in his desire to... be in position to win another title. That's one of the reasons why he sees the Knicks as a potential destination if Milwaukee ever decided to trade him... The idea of (the Knicks breaking their 52-year championship drought) is something that appeals to Antetokounmpo," said Begley.

But he also admits that there are many hurdles to cross before that ever comes to fruition.

Charania is adding more context to this story, saying that the Knicks would not be the only team in the bidding if Giannis were to determine that he's ready to move on from Milwaukee.

"That window is no longer exclusive just to the Knicks... Giannis and his agent... have been figuring out which multiple teams could find their way (into the discussion).

"But the quarter-mark of the year—20-25 games—I'm keeping my eye on that for the Knicks and the rest of the league."

Could a stunning Antetokounmpo trade shake the coming NBA season to its core?

The two-time MVP and one-time NBA Finals MVP has stated repeatedly that his goal is to win more championships in his NBA career. One (2021) just doesn't do it for him.
