Lakers Eyeing Former NBA Champion As Trade Target

Despite their strong 11-4 start to the season, the Los Angeles Lakers continue their search to bolster their lineup. According to insider Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Lakers continue to have their eye on Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins.

"The Lakers know they need some improvements on the wing," said Fischer.

In particular, they are looking for help on the defensive side of the ball, and Wiggins would be a nice boost to their perimeter D, and an upgrade who could guard multiple positions and take pressure off of Luka Doncic and LeBron James. Because of his two-way play and his ability to impact the game without the ball in his hands, Wiggins would be an ideal complement to the Luka/LeBron combo.

Lakers face major hurdles in trying to trade for Miami's Andrew Wiggins

There are two sticking points, however, to LA's attempts to pry the former Golden State Warriors world champ free from Miami.

First up, the Heat are 10-6 and in contention in an upended Eastern Conference that seems ripe for the taking. They won't be anxious to unload Wiggins, and even if they do consider it, they will be asking for a hefty price in return.

In addition, Wiggins has a $30M player option after the season, and could choose to become a free agent. How much will an acquiring team want to give up for a potential short-term rental?

This season, Wiggins is averaging 16.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists along with 1.1 steals, while shooting a career-high 48% from the field, and a solid 36.5% from three-point range.
