NBA News: Ja Morant Gets Suspended by Memphis Grizzlies

Ja Morant covers his ears during game action

It wouldn't be an NBA season without some behavioral issues and drama surrounding Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies. The latest controversy has landed the mercurial star guard a one-game suspension for "conduct detrimental to the team."

The suspension is as a result of Morant's response to being called out by Grizzlies coach Tuomas Iisalo challenging the player's leadership and effort in a postgame exchange after a loss to the Lakers on Friday night.

“Go ask the coaching staff," was the refrain that Morant repeated when the media questioned him about what went wrong after the game. When asked why he didn't have his usual energy on the floor in the game, he replied, "Go ask the coaching staff why."

When asked what he felt could have gone differently, he got a little more creative, answering, “According to them, probably don’t play me, honestly,” Morant said. “That’s basically what the message was, after. It’s cool.”

Morant scored only eight points in 31 minutes, on 3-of-14 shooting, in Memphis’ 117-112 loss to the Lakers.

The 26-year-old has been averaging a five-year low 20.8 points per game this season through six games, with a career-worst 40.6% shooting pct. from the field.

The former No. 2 overall pick (2019 NBA Draft) has received a few previous suspensions for his actions on and off the court, depicting and/or holding firearms.

Hey, let's look on the bright side... At least there were no guns involved this time (of the real or finger variety).
