Warriors & Lakers Battle It Out For One Particular Trade Target

The Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers are looking to add some 3-and-D oomph to their lineups, and appear to both be circling around the same trade candidate.

Per Brett Siegel of Clutch Points, New Orleans Pelicans' guard Herb Jones is squarely on the radar of both teams.

“Herb Jones has been one of the most coveted two-way wings in the league, and the Pelicans have turned down multiple trade offers for him through the years. The Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors are among a handful of Western Conference contenders actively exploring ways to acquire Jones,” wrote Siegel.

Jones' elite, lockdown defence would be a boon to either team's chances of a deeper playoff run. He was All-Defensive First Team in 2024, and finished 5th in Defensive Player of the Year balloting. He made the All-Rookie Second Team in 2022.

What could Lakers or Warriors offer Pelicans for Herb Jones?

For the Warriors, names like Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody would likely be coveted by the Pelicans in any trade scenario. From the Lakers, the Pels would have to be interested in either Rui Hachimura or a package highlighted by Dalton Knecht, as their trade assets are not as robust.

Jones, 27, has averaged 1.6 steals per game in his five-year NBA career and 36.5% from the three-point line, with 10.1 points and 3.8 boards. This season, in 16 games, he's right around his career marks, with 9.5 ppg, 3.8 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 36.2% from long range.
