NBA Trade Rumor: Jonathan Kuminga Heads to Dallas in 3-Team Proposed Deal

Jonathan Kuminga's days in Golden State are numbered. This, we know. He became trade eligible on Thursday, and officially asked to be moved. This is no surprise, given that the promising forward has been nailed to the bench for the Warriors' past 13 games, and 16 of the last 17. Head coach Steve Kerr has made no bones about his displeasure for the 23-year-old.

With that, let's take a look at a big three-team proposed deal that would send Kuminga to the Dallas Mavericks, as proposed by Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report

Dallas Mavericks Acquire:

  • Jonathan Kuminga
  • Georges Niang

Golden State Warriors Acquire:
  • Daniel Gafford
  • Klay Thompson

Utah Jazz Acquire:
  • Buddy Hield
  • 2027 first-round swap (via GSW)

With the inevitability of Anthony Davis being moved, the Mavericks are clearly pivoting in the direction of building their team around rookie sensation Cooper Flagg. Kuminga is young enough (23) to be a part of that movement. He was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and averaged over 15 ppg in his breakout 2023-24 (and '24-'25) seasons. Niang's expiring deal gives the Mavs some extra flexibility in the summer.

The other notable component of this hypothetical deal is the reunion of Klay Thompson with Steph Curry in Golden State. The Warriors have been looking for another scorer to complement Curry and Jimmy Butler, and who better than Steph's Splash Brother? Additionally, the Dubs get an athletic shot-blocking center in Gafford, something they've been searching for for quite some time.

For the Jazz, in return for taking Hield's salary off Golden State's books, they get a 2027 pick swap that may or may not be a nice move for them. It depends on whether they feel the Dubs are truly on the way down with Curry, Butler, Draymond Green (and Klay) all on the wrong side of 35.
