Sochan had 10 interested suitors after being released from the Spurs on Wednesday, per Shams Charania. Among the teams that they had engaged with on potential trade of Sochan prior to the deadline included the Knicks, the Chicago Bulls and the Phoenix Suns.
The versatile, high-energy defender will be a great addition to the Knicks, bringing his physical defense to the lineup, and even some ballhandling. The 6-foot-8 forward is a versatile defender, able to check all five positions on the floor. He is always a pain to play against.
Sochan had averaged over 26 minutes a night, largely as a starter, over his first three seasons with San Antonio, with an average of 11.5 points per game. He was even their primary ballhandler in 2023. But his minutes and contributions were significantly slashed this season, down to just 12.8 minutes per game and four points a night.
It won't take long for Sochan to face his old team, as the Spurs visit Madison Square Garden in less than three weeks, on March 1st.
The Knicks are the 3-seed in the Eastern Conference at 35-20, going into the All-Star break.
