Breaking: Hornets Send Draft Pick To Heat To Complete Past Trade
The Miami Heat were not too happy about being saddled with Terry Rozier in a 2024 trade from the Charlotte Hornets, when it turns out the player was under investigation at the time by the NBA and the federal authorities over an alleged gambling conspiracy. The Heat raised the issue with the league, and today, they got some resolution.
The Hornets must send a 2026 second-round draft pick to the Heat to resolve the whole affair.

The original trade saw the Heat receive Rozier in exchange for a 2027 first-round pick and Kyle Lowry. Now Miami gets a second-rounder as well.
Rozier, 32, hasn't played this season, as he is currently on indefinite leave following his October 2025 arrest surrounding the alleged illegal gambling scheme. But an arbitrator ruled recently that the Heat are still on the hook for Rozier's $26.6 million salary, despite not playing for the team at all this year and facing federal charges.
Rozier's scoring and assist rates were cut in half in his first full season in Miami during the 2024-25 campaign, from 19.8 ppg the previous year, to just 10.6 with the Heat, and from 5.6 assists per game, to just 2.6 with Miami.
Did the Heat get a fair resolution from the Hornets over Rozier trade affair?
Does a second-round pick seem like a fair resolution for the first-rounder that they gave up? Not sure Pat Riley is thrilled with the result, but it's better than nothing.
The Heat do own their own first-rounder in this year's draft, so now have four picks in the 2026 Draft, as this will give them three second-rounders.
Miami currently sits in 7th spot in the Eastern Conference, in the top Play-In position. Charlotte holds down the 10th seed in the East, the last Play-In spot.
