Golden State Warriors To 'Go Hard' After 2 Superstars This Summer

The Golden State Warriors are determined to take one last big run at a championship in the Steph Curry window. This year is pretty much a write-off, with the team buried at the 10-seed in the West, and facing an uphill climb to get through the Play-In, even when Curry does return to the court (he's been out since January 30th).

This summer, however, according the San Francisco Standard's Tim Kawakami, the Warriors have already thought about going hard after LeBron James or Kawhi Leonard.

"It’s possible. It’s big and it’s a bit reckless. But going hard after either Kawhi or LeBron is exactly what the moment is demanding of the Warriors right now. And Joe Lacob and Mike Dunleavy probably already put all of this and more on the white board months ago," writes Kawakami.

With Curry having just turned 38, yet still close to the top of his game, when healthy, the team just has to go for one more big splash. Jimmy Butler will return at some point next season from his torn ACL, and with Curry and one of those current LA-based superstars on board, the Dubs may be able to take another swing at a title.

'Do you do nothing and let this (Steph Curry) era slide away?'

"Do you go big for a brand-name star who might make things uncomfortable but also multiplies your title chances? Or do nothing and let this era slide away?" asked Kawakami, in his final plea.

The LeBron angle is an easy one to picture. He's good friends with Draymond Green and Curry, and James and Steph had a grand ol' time winning a Gold Medal together at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“I was super excited to be able to finally team up with him in a win-or-die type atmosphere,” James said back then. "It was everything that I dreamed of and aspired to want, to be a part of that team, along with Steph. Great memories. Something that I’ll remember from my basketball career for the rest of my life, for sure.”

Kawhi, of course, is much harder to read. But he could potentially be a free agent if his contract is voided in the Clippers cap circumvention scandal. Or he could want out with the team going much younger now into a new era.

We'll be watching the Warriors closely this summer.
