NBA Trade Sees Sixers & Clippers Complete Swap

The LA Clippers need some frontcourt help and the Philadelphia 76ers were only too happy to oblige. 6'10" power forward/center Johni Broome heads to LA, in exchange for cash considerations.

The Sixers are also sending their second most favorable of their three second-round picks to the Clips in order to help absorb the contract of Broome. 

As Jake Fischer reported on The Stein Line, the Sixers needed to unload Broome in order to sign Kentavious Caldwell-Pope once he clears waivers at 5 p.m. ET. So they get the move in just under that deadline. The deal also allows them to stay under both the first and second aprons, after the signings of LeBron James and KCP.

Caldwell-Pope, by the way, reportedly gave up $4M in his buyout from the Grizzlies in order to come to the Sixers.

From the Clippers' side, Broome fits into the $2.3 million trade exception they created by trading Chris Paul last season, per Yossi Gozlan.

They still have plenty of flexibility to make additional moves, however, with $38 million in luxury tax space.

Broome was a second-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft by Philly, at 35th overall, out of Morehead State University. He only played 55 minutes total in 11 games with the Sixers in his rookie season, averaging 0.9 points and 1.5 rebounds. He spent most of the year in the G League.
