Significant Development In Peyton Watson Drama After 'Insulting' Offer

The contract stalemate between the Denver Nuggets and Peyton Watson is coming to a head. He is now considering betting on himself in a significant development. According to The Stein Line, Watson is seriously considering taking the $6.5M qualifying offer for one year, which would make him an unrestricted free agent after next season.

The Nuggets' offers are not close to what the highly sought-after RFA is looking for. Stein reports that the initial offer was $70M for four years. In fact, it's been "insulting", as noted by NBC Sports' Kurt Helin.

"Denver is believed to have initially offered in the range of four years, $70 million ($17.5 million per season average), according to Stein. That was understandably insulting to Watson, who saw the same franchise give Christian Braun five years, $125 million ($25 million a year) a year ago — and Watson completely outplayed and was much more crucial to Denver last season."

But that's not the only development on the Watson front. There are now three teams in the running for a sign-and-trade with the Denver Nuggets for the RFA, according to Shams Charania.
