NBA Trade Rumor: Kawhi Leonard Heads to Phoenix in Suns Trade Proposal

We still don't know if the NBA will void Kawhi Leonard's contract after their investigation into the LA Clippers' alleged cap circumvention scandal. But if he's still under contract for one more season to the Clips by the time this season comes to an end, he will be the subject of a multitude of trade rumors this offseason. He already is, in fact.

Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report has proposed a blockbuster deal that would send the former 2-time NBA Finals MVP to the desert.

Phoenix Suns receive:

  • Kawhi Leonard

Los Angeles Clippers receive:
  • Jalen Green
  • Khaman Maluach
  • Rasheer Fleming
  • 2027 first-round pick (via CLE, MIN or UTA)

As Buckley notes, this trade would elevate the Suns into potential contender status and once again get Devin Booker a co-leading man.
"Booker badly needs a co-star, and Leonard would immediately enhance everything this team does at both ends."

The Suns' defense would be as tough as any around the league with Kawhi pairing with Dillon Brooks, and Mark Williams as a rim protector (if he can stay on the floor).

For the Clippers, this hypothetical deal would complete their transition from the trio of older vets they started the season with, to a completely young new-look team (aside from Brook Lopez). They would get another dynamic young scorer in Green to go along with trade deadline acquisitions Bennedict Mathurin and Darius Garland. The athleticism would be through the roof, and they'd be tough to stop offensively.

Maluach, the 10th overall pick last year, is a 19-year-old shot-blocking center, much like his legendary countryman, the late Manute Bol. He would be a nice piece for the Clippers to start rebuilding with down low, after they traded away center Ivica Zubac. And Lopez would be around next season to help mentor him.

Fleming would be a shot in the dark chance on a second-rounder, plus they'd get a first-round pick next year.
