New NBA Report: 'All Signs Point to Giannis-Bucks Divorce'
Stop us if you've heard this one before. The Greek Freak and the the Milwaukee Bucks are heading for a divorce. But this time, the idea is gaining more steam, as the Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo are at odds about his playing status.
In a report from Sam Amick in The Athletic, he says that the two sides are almost certainly headed to a point where they will have to part ways this summer.
This is what happens when a team’s agenda suddenly diverts from that of its franchise centerpiece.
The team’s current stance — that he won’t be medically cleared to play despite the strong indications that he believes he’s good to go — is the clearest sign yet that these two parties are headed for a divorce in the summer. the notion of Antetokounmpo still being in a Bucks jersey when he’s eligible to sign a four-year, $270 million extension on Oct. 1 seems even more unlikely by the day.
Antetokounmpo suffered a left knee hyperextension on March 15.
It's possible that the Bucks are trying to hold Giannis out to preserve his health so as not to put a potential offseason trade in danger. Or maybe they're hoping to improve their 'tanking' chances to get a better lottery pick by keeping him out of the lineup. Or maybe both, as Amico suggests.
The NBA is looking into the matter after the Players Association issued a complaint.
But either way, it's obvious that the Bucks & Giannis are not on the same page, and it's possible that the Greek Freak has played his final game in a Bucks uniform.
