Report: Cavaliers Turned Down This Bucks Offer for Giannis Antetokounmpo
The Cleveland Cavaliers had to muster everything they had in the tank to defeat the Toronto Raptors in seven games in the first round of these NBA playoffs. They're now down 1-0 to the top-seeded Detroit Pistons.
But what if they had Giannis Antetokounmpo in their lineup...Say, instead of Evan Mobley? If you're the Cavs, do you jump at that chance?
According to insider Jake Fischer of the Stein Line, Cleveland reached out to the Milwaukee Bucks about a potential trade for Giannis back before the deadline. They were told it would cost Mobley and a ton of draft capital. The Cavs said No.
The Cavaliers reportedly contacted the Bucks about a potential trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo, but Milwaukee wanted Evan Mobley and all of their available first-round picks, per @JakeLFischer

Putting Giannis together with Donovan Mitchell, James Harden, and Jarrett Allen for a run at the title? Not many teams would have turned that down, writes Fischer.
Rival executives would have jumped at the chance to make this trade for Giannis
“The Cavaliers, league sources say, contacted the Bucks about Giannis before the deadline as well … and were told it would take Evan Mobley and all of Cleveland's available draft capital to get it done. That's a trade construction that presumably would have Mobley stans scoffing, but it's a move that no shortage of rival executives I've discussed it with say they would make.”
The Cavs will have to live with their choice now, and try to figure out a way to get past the Pistons, then, presumably, the New York Knicks, to get out of the East, with the cast they've got.
Yes, Mobley is almost seven years younger than Antetokounmpo. And yes, the young Cavs big man was the NBA Defensive Player of the Year last season. But Giannis is Giannis. The Finals MVP. A two-time league MVP. A nine-time All-Star and a five-time All-NBA Defensive Team member. One of the greatest players the game has ever seen. And at 31, he's not over the hill, by any means.
Sure, the Greek Freak is coming off an injury-riddled campaign. But we are reminded here of a certain Cavs rival going for broke, as it were, to bring in an oft-injured prior Finals MVP and one of the top superstars in the game, in an effort to win it all. The Toronto Raptors gambled, and won, with their trade for Kawhi Leonard in 2018-19.
The Cavaliers apparently decided to leave the craps table without placing a similar bet.
