2 Teams Listed As Suitors For Bradley Beal

Bradley Beal, he of the formerly worst contract in basketball, is currently without a deal as a free agent. But two teams are emerging as potential landing spots, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.

Both the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics apparently have some interest in the former three-time All-Star.

"I was told today that Bradley Beal's decision is not exactly being held up by LeBron, but is being impacted by it. I do think there's some Miami interest there, and I would not rule out Boston for Beal because of the connection with Jayson Tatum...  Beal is definitely going to be signed by a team with playoff aspirations; that is my understanding there," Fischer said.

Both Miami and Boston, of course, fit into that category.

Heat & Celtics are options for Bradley Beal

For the Heat, they reportedly had some level of communication with the player after Beal declined his option with the LA Clippers. And after trading Tyler Herro in the Giannis trade, Miami does have a need for reliable backcourt depth. How "reliable" he is after playing just six games last year and missing huge swaths of the past several seasons is anybody's guess.

As for the Celtics, Beal has a longstanding friendship with Jayson Tatum, having grown up together in St. Louis, per Fischer.

There is still one other option as well, said the insider.

“I think there is even a chance he could go back to the Clippers because of the interest that has been there and he wanted to be in the LA for the foreseeable future,” Fischer said.

Beal, however, declined his $5.6 million player option with the LA Clippers at the end of the past season, after signing a two-year, $11 million deal with them last summer. He played just six games for the Clips after suffering a left hip fracture that required season-ending surgery. Injuries have derailed the second half of his career, as he's played more than 53 games just once in the last seven years, and never more than 60 over that period. 

The now 33-year-old became a free agent last summer following a massive buyout of his albatross of a contract, which spanned five years and $251 million. The Phoenix Suns agreed to buy out the final two years of that deal, which came to $99 million after an agreement between the sides. The Suns will be paying Beal about $20M annually through 2030.
