Top 10 Remaining NBA Free Agents

After a flurry of signings this past week of free agents Jonathan Kuminga, Bennedict Mathurin and Nick Richards, there are still some notable players out there for teams looking to fill a roster spot with a veteran. And two new names have jumped onto the list after being waived this week. 

NBA analyst Jake Weinbach lists for us the Top 10 remaining free agents:

  • Jalen Duren (R)
    John Konchar
    Cam Whitmore
    Bruce Brown
    Ben Simmons
    Gabe Vincent
    Kelly Olynyk
    Nicolas Batum
    Cam Thomas
    Kevin Love 

Duren is the only one of the restricted variety, and his saga with the Detroit Pistons this summer has been well-documented. We've learned that things have gotten "awfully ugly" between the two sides, though the Pistons still feel they'll get him signed.  

Konchar & Whitmore join the top 10 directly after getting waived this week. Whitmore was a Cleveland Cavalier for just a couple of days before being cut loose. Konchar, we've learned, will be waived by the Minnesota Timberwolves for salary relief, after they acquired Jonathan Kuminga. 

Others with intriguing upside on the list (depending on your definition of 'intriguing') include former three-time All-Star Ben Simmons and former 24 ppg man, Cam Thomas. 

Ben Simmons & Cam Thomas among the notable names left in free agency

Simmons, now 30, did not play an NBA game last season, but says he's ready for a comeback. He hasn't really been a factor in the league since holding out from the Philadelphia 76ers and forcing a trade to Brooklyn back in 2021-22. 

Thomas signed a one-year qualifying offer with Brooklyn last summer as an RFA to bet on himself for unrestricted free agency this offseason. That bet hasn't paid off as yet, as he remains unsigned. 

Despite his proven ability to put up high-scoring numbers, as an undersized, score-only guard who does not offer a defensive or playmaking profile, his market demand is not high. 

Other honorable mentions for this list include Tony Bradley, Mason Plumlee and Dwight Powell.
